ABC News Veteran and RLTV Host Sam Donaldson to Lead Exclusive N.C. Election Forum on Issues Most Important to Senior Voters

RALEIGH – Retirement Living TV (RLTV) is partnering with Time Warner Cable, AARP N.C. and the N.C. Center for Voter Education to sponsor an election forum designed to educate and empower senior voters about the upcoming mid-term elections.

The North Carolina Election Forum will be held on Monday, October 25th at 7 p.m. at Peace College Auditorium in Raleigh. The forum is free and open to the public.

Moderated by RLTV’s Sam Donaldson, the forum will feature a panel of leading opinion-makers, political insiders and members of the North Carolina press on issues most relevant to area voters.

After its taping, the forum, along with additional "Prime Votes: The 2010 Election" content, will run on RLTV and will be offered on Time Warner Cable's Carolina On Demand Channel 1047.

The Election Forum will consist of three segments:

-- Important Issues -- Two top political consultants in the state, Carter Wrenn and Morgan Jackson, discuss the issues important in the upcoming election.

-- Policies that Matter -- Two leading policy experts, Bob Jackson (AARP N.C.) and Mebane Rash (N.C. Center for Public Policy Research) comment on issues facing prime voters in North Carolina and nationally.

-- The State of the Races -- A panel of experts discuss the hot races in North Carolina and how they reflect national trends. The panel will include Laura Leslie (capitol bureau chief for WUNC-FM), David Mclennan (professor of political science at Peace College), Rob Christensen (Raleigh News & Observer) and Tim Boyum (News 14 Carolina).

This election is driven by issues of fundamental importance to older Americans. This November, choices will be made that will directly impact retired citizens. Social Security, Medicare benefits and the age of retirement are all under threat. The outcomes and repercussions will be long-term and potentially shattering. These topics, along with education, the environment, immigration and the national deficit, will all be addressed in this forum.

North Carolina is a bellwether state. The vote was extremely close in the last election and demographic trends are closely aligned with the rest of the country. The forum will take a closer look at issues facing N.C. voters, particularly mature North Carolinians, as voters get ready to head to the polls. By looking in depth at North Carolina we hope to unearth some truths about this election, national trends and significant issues facing seniors in the fall of 2010.

The N.C. Election Forum is part of RLTV’s national mid-term election initiative, "Prime Votes: The 2010 Election." Content includes:

-- Two special 60-minute forums hosted by Cokie Roberts, the senior news analyst for NPR and chief congressional analyst for ABC News, which will give 55-plus voters a chance to air their concerns. The shows feature an impressive panel of leading opinion-makers and political insiders and will delve deeply into the troubling issues imperative to seniors in the upcoming election.

-- Satellite tour giving access to Ms. Roberts for interviews and discussion on affiliate and national news and talk shows.

-- Daily news desk updates, five days a week, with esteemed journalists Sam Donaldson and John Palmer. Along with the incisive and compelling commentary of the anchors these timely updates will also feature field reports from a range of notable contributors and will examine the latest news as it develops and investigate trends in the political landscape, all from a senior perspective.

Seniors are in the powerful position to affect the future of the country in a way that is historically unique. This is a vulnerable time for a lot of mature Americans, and having to bear the brunt in these economic times is both unjust and unconscionable. This can change, very simply: with a vote. This isn’t about politics, it’s about the future.
