N.C. Center for Voter Education, UNC-TV Launch 2009 N.C. Voter Guide

RALEIGH - Voters in 11 communities across North Carolina can find information on this year’s candidates at www.NCVoterGuide.org, an online voter guide created in partnership between the N.C. Center for Voter Education and UNC-TV.

The 2009 N.C. Voter Guide features profiles and audio statements from contenders for local elections, along with links to resources on voting in this year’s election.

The 11 communities included in the online voter guide are Asheville, Cary, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington and Winston-Salem.

“As voters, we tend to pay a lot of attention to national and statewide races, but we sometimes overlook these vital local elections that affect everything from the water we drink to the quality of our children’s schools,” said Damon Circosta, executive director of the N.C. Center for Voter Education.  “We hope this guide will empower North Carolina voters with the information they need to cast a confident ballot in this year’s election.”

In addition to producing the online voter guide with UNC-TV, the N.C. Center for Voter Education has provided in-depth information on local elections by managing the 2009 Cary Community Candidate Forum, in addition to covering other local contests.

The N.C. Center for Voter Education is a Raleigh-based nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping citizens more fully participate in democracy.
