Damon Circosta Named Executive Director of N.C. Center for Voter Education
RALEIGH - Damon Circosta has been named executive director of the N.C. Center for Voter Education, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving elections and strengthening civic engagement in North Carolina.
“Damon brings a keen understanding of public policy and a proven commitment to protecting the integrity of our state’s representative democracy,” said state Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, president of the N.C. Center for Voter Education. “We are confident that Damon will build upon the Center’s success and effectively lead the organization as we seek to empower North Carolina voters.”
Circosta has been with the N.C. Center for Voter Education for two years as the organization’s policy director. During that time, he has played a key role in shaping campaign reforms in North Carolina, including the state’s public financing program for Council of State races.
A native of Arizona, Circosta has worked in Washington, D.C., California and Raleigh as an attorney and political consultant. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona School of Law and has worked in the U.S. Senate on campaign reform efforts, including the landmark Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act -- otherwise known as McCain-Feingold. He has managed a successful statewide judicial campaign under North Carolina's Judicial Campaign Reform Act and worked on various other reforms to the election system.
“This is an important and exciting time for positive reform in our state,” said Circosta. “I look forward to the Center doing all we can to make our political system more accessible and responsive to North Carolina voters.”
Founded in 1999, the N.C. Center for Voter Education is a prominent supporter of campaign reform and a leading provider of information on elections and candidates.
