Deadlines to Register to Vote in N.C.

The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina is 25 days before the day of the election.

Forms that are received by the county board of elections office or postmarked by the deadline are accepted as valid applications for the upcoming election. Also, agency and DMV voter registration transactions that are completed by the deadline are accepted as valid for the upcoming election. Applicants will be notified by the county board of elections of their precinct and polling place assignments.

Voting Requirements

You may register to vote in North Carolina if you are:

  • a United States citizen
  • at least 18 years old or will be by the date of the general election
  • a resident of North Carolina and the county precinct where you want to vote for at least 30 days before the election
  • not a convicted felon still in custody, on probation or on parole. If you have served all parts of your sentence, you can register.

Apr. 11 - Deadline to register to vote for May 6, 2014 primary

Oct. 10 - Deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 4, 2014 general election

N.C. Voter Registration FormYou are required to provide your North Carolina drivers license number if you have one. If you don't have a drivers license, you can provide the last four digits of your Social Security number.

If you do not have either of these, you may include with the voter registration form a copy of identification that shows your name and address.
